One person, one rope.
Chotki was made by one Orthodox Christian who wanted a way to keep a rule of prayer, and to help new Orthodox inquirers get off zero.

Why it was made
The author recognized that the Orthodox Church is growing, and that many people are looking for a starting line before contacting the Church, or are unable to make direct contact with it. Chotki exists to provide that bridge. It is designed to get the user off zero, and to encourage them to seek out a priest or spiritual father. The app has succeeded in its goal when it is no longer needed.
Independent
Chotki is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sanctioned by any church, parish, jurisdiction or other authority. Its content is sourced from public-domain texts and other credited sources under CC-BY-SA 4.0. See sources. It is introductory, not authoritative. Chotki is a beginning or a bridge, not a destination.
Free, always
Chotki is free and will stay free: no price, no subscription, no advertising, and no data collected. The prayers, the sayings of the Fathers and the pictures are in the public domain. The church calendar (fasts, feasts, commemorations and the appointed readings) is generated from the open-source code behind Orthocal.info, with our thanks to that project, and ships inside the app: five years of it, 2026 to 2031, so the app needs no connection to show the day. Anything from Orthocal that is not in the public domain has been replaced with a public-domain equivalent. The lives of the saints are the Prologue from Ochrid, shared under CC BY-SA 4.0 and presented unaltered. All sources are named in the app and on the home page.
