Chotki
Privacy Policy

Chotki collects nothing.

Last updated 7 October 2026. Applies to the Chotki apps for iOS, Android, macOS, Windows and Linux, and to this website.

A prayer rule is a private matter. Chotki is built so that nobody, including its author, can see yours.

In short. Chotki has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no servers of its own. Everything you enter stays on your device. The church calendar for 2026 to 2031 is bundled inside the app, so day to day it makes no network requests. We do not collect, sell, share or track personal data of any kind.

Who we are

Chotki is an independent project made by an individual developer. It is not published by, or affiliated with, any church or organization. In this policy, "we" means the author of Chotki.

What we collect

Nothing. We do not receive, store or have access to any information about you or your use of the app. Chotki contains no analytics, crash reporting, advertising or tracking software, and no third-party software development kits that collect data. It does not ask you to create an account or sign in.

What stays on your device

To work, the app keeps the following on your own device and nowhere else:

  • The name you choose to be called, and, if you enter one, the name of your spiritual father.
  • The rules you have taken on, their schedules and any wording you have written yourself.
  • Which days each rule was kept, paused or set aside, and the progress calculated from them.
  • Your settings, such as your reminder times, your church if you name one, and your fasting and feast preferences.
  • A copy of any calendar days fetched from beyond the bundle, so they too work without a connection.
  • Backups and exports of your record, saved as files on your device.

None of this is sent to us. Because we never have it, we cannot read it, recover it, or hand it to anyone. If you lose your device or remove the app, your record goes with it, unless you have exported a copy yourself.

The bundled calendar

The day's feasts, fasts, readings and saints come from a calendar that is bundled inside the app. We generated it from the open-source code behind Orthocal.info, and it covers five years, 2026 to 2031, under both the Old and the New reckoning. Days within that span are answered from the app itself, and the app works without a connection. The one exception, at either end of the span, is described below.

When the app does use the network

Chotki checks a short span of calendar days around today or the day you select. It answers dates from 1 January 2026 through 31 December 2031 using the calendar included in the app. For a date outside that range, it first checks whether the day is already saved on your device. If it is not, Chotki requests that day from the public service orthocal.info. This can happen when you browse outside the bundled range or when the span being refreshed crosses either end of it.

The request URL identifies the date and your chosen calendar reckoning, and its User-Agent identifies Chotki. As with any internet request, orthocal.info also receives your device’s IP address. Chotki sends no name, prayer rule, progress, or identifier it creates. It saves the response on your device for later offline use. We do not operate orthocal.info or receive its logs; that service’s handling of requests is governed by its own practices.

Permissions the apps ask for

NotificationsTo remind you of a rule at the time you choose. Reminders are scheduled on your device. No notification service of ours is involved. You can decline, and the app still works.
Internet access (Android)Only for the calendar request for a day outside the bundled range, described above.
Exact alarms and start-up (Android)So a reminder arrives at the minute you set, and is restored after your phone restarts.
Launch at login (Mac and Windows)Optional. Lets the menu bar or tray item be there when you sign in.

Chotki does not ask for your location, contacts, photos, camera, microphone, calendar, health data or advertising identifier.

Sharing and selling

We do not sell, rent, trade or share personal data, because we do not have any. There are no advertisers and no data partners.

Backups by your operating system

The Android app switches off Android's own app backup. Your device's operating system or your own settings, for example an iCloud, Time Machine or Windows backup of the whole device, may still include the app's files as it does for any other app. That is a choice between you and your platform, and we have no part in it. If you save an export to a cloud folder, the same applies.

Deleting your data

Remove the app from your device and its record is removed with it. Nothing remains on any server of ours, because none exists. Backups and exports you saved yourself are ordinary files that you can delete in the usual way.

This website

This website is static. No page except About sets cookies, runs analytics or loads third-party scripts or fonts. The About page loads the Ko-fi donation button, served by Ko-fi (ko-fi.com). Its contact form sends your message to Web3Forms (web3forms.com), a separate service that emails it to the author. Each is a separate service with its own privacy policy. They are the only third-party services on the site, and neither is part of the app. A message contains only what you type, plus your address if you give one.

Your rights

Laws such as the GDPR, the UK GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act give people rights over the personal data an organization holds about them. We hold none, so there is nothing to access, correct, export or delete on our side. Everything is in your hands, on your device.

For the app stores

For reviewers and for anyone comparing the store listings with this policy:

Apple App StoreApp Privacy: Data Not Collected. No tracking. The app does not use the advertising identifier.
Google PlayData safety: no data collected, no data shared. Prayer records and settings are not sent off the device (calendar requests are described above), and nothing is transmitted that identifies the user.
Microsoft StoreThe app does not collect or transmit personal information. The only network request is the calendar request for a day outside the bundled range, described above.

Changes to this policy

If the apps ever change in a way that affects this policy, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change reaches anyone. Past versions will not be applied to new behavior.
